I read this article on SCG.com a while back that talked about the different kinds of players; Noobs, Casuals, & Pros.
Looking at cards:
Noobs: will look at a bad card and will think it is awesome. They’ll build a deck with it and lose with it, still convinced it’s a good card.
Casuals: will test a card and make a decision after play testing. Even after play testing they’ll still stick with a bad card or idea.
Pros: will look at a card and INSTANTLY be able to determine if it’s worth playing or not. They don’t fall in love with the card, if something better comes along, then they'll use the better card.
Prior to tournaments:
Noobs: will build decks the day of tourneys and FNMs.
Casuals: will build sideboards the day of tourneys and FNMs.
Pros: will already be preparing for next week’s tournament.
If they had $80 in their pocket:
Noobs: buy packs, at full price, and crack them open immediately. Sometimes discovering a card that they will put into their deck, only to make it worst.
Casuals: will buy boxes at a deal. Will open the majority of those packs.
Pros: will attend Pre-Release and Release events. Rarely will they open packs for fun, only for drafts.
During drafts:
Noobs: Gold symbols are good!
Casual: I stick to my plan! ESPER ALL THE WAY!!!
Pros: My first four picks were Oblivion Ring, Panorama, Tap-Land, and Agony Warp.
When playing cards with multiple modes (i.e. Cryptic Command):
Noobs: "I counter your spell" and forget to pick the second mode.
Casuals: "I counter your spell" and then they think for a second about what the 2nd mode will be.
Pros: "I counter your spell and draw a card." Pros will already know what they want to do with a card.
When "tutoring" for a card:
Noobs: will take a super long time looking for a card.
Casuals: will take less time jumping back and for between a couple of cards
Pros:> will immediately jump to that card they are looking for. Like I said above, Pros will already know what they want to do with a card.
When deciding to Mulligan:
Noobs: will keep bad hands no matter what. "I just need to get one more land!"
Casuals: will still not mulligan even with poor hands. After mulliganing, they will look at the top few cards of their library. Only pushing them to not mulligan in future. Bad move, if you don't have the discipline of mulliganing a bad hand, then DO NOT LOOK at the top cards of your deck.
Pros: have mastered the art of the mulligan.
I consider myself a Casual with Noob & Pro tendencies. Sometimes I love those gold symbols, but I still have 2 packs of Shards and 4 packs of Conflux sitting at home. What are you?

Looking at cards: Casual/semi-pro
Prior to Tourney: haven't been to enough... Most likely Casual
$80 bones: Never attended Pre-release and release events... so Casual here too
During Drafts: Casual/Semi-pro
Overall: CASUAL player. I enjoy the competitiveness of MTG decks, but still love crazy weird/stupid/fun/hilarious combos.
Future Stats: CASUAL/Semi-Pro Player. I won't play many tournaments outside of our friends, so I won't be buying the Tier 1 mad expensive cards either. I still can't deny the joy of opening booster packs!
Total casual! Even when I play Treefolk Harbinger I'm thinking, "Should I grab a Forest? I might need it later."
i'm total casual all the way b/c i cant shake the wanting to crack packs for the thrill of it.
and i dont take myself seriously enough to "GO Pro".
josh out.
thanks.
yes i am ready for him. ready then i'll ever be.
pary and i decided on Landon and if for some reason that one percent chance it's a girl then we're naming her bella.
we would love to have more kids in the future. we don't want them to be more then 2-3 years apart. so we'll see.
you guys have anything plan this weekend?

Good seeing you guys this weekend! As always, there's never enough time to do some good hanging out. Hopefully in two weeks when we come up, we'll have more time to do so!
