Songs that Worked for Me in 2010, Part 1

Here are some of my favorite songs from this past year, enjoy!

Neko Case - This Tornado Loves You
This song is a couple of years old, but I'm also a little behind in my music so it's okay. :) I love Neko Case's use of imagery. She has a song where she says "I'm a killer whale." And for a split second, I can imagine that she is. It's absolutely amazing how she can do that.

I love how she describes the love she feels inside as a tornado. Again the imagery is amazing in this song. Just the other night, I let my wife know that this song reminds me of my love for her. Here are some lyrics that I can relate to:

"My love, I am the speed of sound. I left them motherless, fatherless."
"Carved your name across three counties."
"I have waited with a glacier's patience, smashed every transformer with every trailer, till nothing was standing. 65 miles wide."
- passion in search of love, will leave no rocks unturned in its quest

@ 1:52: "I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss..." - I love that part!
@ 2:43: "This tornado loves, what will make you believe me?" - the perfect ending to an amazing song.

Black Keys - Tighten Up
This song is the perfect Black Keys song! Simple but incredibly heavy lyrics about love, a cool fuzzed out guitar lick, some whistling, and listen to the drums! Those tight eight-note snare drum rolls throughout the song just give this song the perfect feel. The Black Keys alone have made playing my guitar so much fun! Me + my guitar + the Black Keys + a fuzz pedal = a couple hours of fun!

The Avett Brothers

The Avett Brothers aren't doing anything new, they're folky song writers, but they do it so perfectly. This song reminds me of young love and lust, songs like this remind me how in love I really am. It's even got a classic breakdown/hoe-down to close out the song.

@ 0:36 "Close the laundry door, tiptoe across the floor. Keep your clothes on, I got all that I can take." - I love that line! "Keep your clothes on, I got all that I can take." That's such a great line!

Thanks for listening! Stay tuned for Part 2!
