Wampler Leviathan

I got my Wampler Pedals Leviathan Fuzz! Check me out here: http://www.wamplerpedals.com/competition/index.html.

A couple of weeks ago, Wampler Pedals had a contest where you had to guess a number between 1000 and 3000. I guessed #1404 and was the closest; the winning number was #1403. I've only played a few fuzz pedals in my life: a green Electro-Harmonix/Sovtek Big Muff Pi, a NYC Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi, and the modules on my Line 6 POD X3 & M9. I really don't consider those Line 6 fuzzes real fuzzes, they get the job done, but they just don't react like a real fuzz pedal does.

I'm still playing around with this pedal and still trying to figure out how it works in my rig and how the controls interact with each other. But so far, I LOVE IT!

It can get some very nice, warm, thick Big Muff sustain. It’s like a Big Muff but more flexible! It’s great for that big, sustaining Pink Floyd neck pickup sound. With the treble pushed and bass backed off, it can have a little more bite to it and you’re in White Stripes territory.

I’m really blown away by how versatile this pedal is. It gets great semi-fuzzy, distortion like tones as well, much like a Colorsound Overdriver & Tone Bender. I can get some great saturated, buzz-saw like, Rat sounds minus the nasally compression, which is great for some Coldplay stuff. The guitarist from Coldplay uses a Rat at a lower drive setting for a lot of his lead lines and riffs. I feel like the Leviathan can cover a lot of Rat & Big Muff sounds BUT SO MUCH MORE!!!

It can sound hi-fi and lo-fi, which is great for Black Keys stuff. It can even get a little crazy and get a little sputtery, almost off-biased at times, when pushed into extreme settings, which is perfect for Queens of the Stone Age.

Another great thing about this pedal is that it’s really reactive to the type of guitar you’re using. My G&L ASAT Special still sounds like an ASAT Special. You gotta love that!

I think that’s what makes Wamper Pedals so amazing! Is that it retains your guitar’s tone, it sounds very full & open, much like Fulltone pedals, and is incredibly flexible and versitile.

Here's a picture of it on my pedal board in between my General Guitar Gadgets ITS8 (right) and my General Guitar Gadgets Jack-of-All-Mini Boosters Boutique Boost (left). Give me some more time with this pedal and I’ll write up another review in a month or so. I’ll also try to put up a video soon too.

I've got a gig in IL this weekend and I can't wait to play with everyone down there. I grew up playing and listening to everyone there and it's going to be so much fun to just get to see everyone again. I'll try to hold back the tears.

Here's my pedal board for the weekend:

1. Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner
2. Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer w/ self-modified IndyGuitarist "Fat Body" Mod
3. self-built General Guitar Gadgets ITS8 (Ibanez TS808 clone) w/ AMZ Phat Mod & Diode-Lift Mod
4. Ibanez TS5 Soundtank Tubescreamer w/ self-modified IndyGuitarist BSM Mod
5. Wampler Pedals Leviathan Fuzz
6. self-built General Guitar Gadgets Jack of all Mini-Boosters Boutique Boost (Fulltone Fat-Boost v1/v2)
7. Line 6 M9 Stompbox Modeler
8. BBE Sonic Stomp

I've still got a long way from what I want my pedal board to sound and look like. But it's okay, I'm in no particular rush because my current rig sounds great and can cover lots of ground.

I totally love this song. The drums are relentless! Everytime its on 89.3 The Current I have to turn it up. The music video is halarious as well.

"Our eyes high-fived!"
"It needs, like, Bald Eagles flying through lightning and pink smoke."
"I should of dressed sexier. Like a sophisticated airline stewardess."
"Silkscreen technician?"
"He has that 'wounded warrior' thing happening."

HILARIOUS! TOO FUNNY!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey man! Interesting board and pedals! I'm digging it! You'll have to demo everything soon. I'm currently renovating my pedalboard too. I retired the fulldrive from Fulltone. After being a Fulldrive user for about 8 years, it started sounding rather bland and generic. I wanted to go with something new! I think I'll have everything up and running in a few weeks. JHV3 is currently building me one of their most hyped pedals. So I'm stoked to get that in the mail in a few weeks. I also had Dan from This1smyne build me something too.
