Tuesday Review: Jackie Chan!

Jackie Chan by far is my favorite martial arts star. No one entertains me more then he does, granted Tony Jaa (that Ong Bak guy) is good, Jason Statham’s got explosion in some of his moves, granted Jet Li was great in Hero, granted Stephen Chow is hilarious. But come on! Jackie Chan is way better! He blends comedy with martial arts fighting and his fight scenes are intense. In other martial art flicks the main character fights one bad guy, at most three at a time, with a second in between each villain to breathe and reposition himself into the horse stance. But not with Jackie! Half way through a punch and there’s already another person on him. When he fights he doesn’t try look all cool and suave, in fact most of the time he’s in panic and scrambling for safety! Plus, he does crazy stunts! No green screen, no stunt double, no wires (take that Jet Li!) He’s so much fun! I think I’m gonna start a Jackie Chan DVD collection or maybe I should just make them all BlueRay?

Here are some of Jackie’s best fight scenes! Yes, City Hunter was such a horrible movie, but so good! Those fights with Benny the Jet are ridiculous!

This is one of my favorite prop scenes w/ Jackie. (My favorite is when he uses that ladder in First Strike.) Here he uses an umbrella and then pays tribute to the late great Gene Kelly with a Singing the Rain fight scene (fast forwards to 2:52).

Here are some of his best stunts! I remember watching that roller skating scene in Winners and Sinners and thought that it was the craziest thing I've ever seen.

Here's a montage with some of Jackie's music. I think when Jackie tries to sing, it's hilarious!

Also learn all of Jackie’s tricks with his movie “Jackie Chan: My Stunts,” a documentary that can be found youtube.

I guess the main reason why I love Jackie so much is because I remember watching his movies with my dad, it was the best of times!
