Okay so Peter and I decided to not go to States. We'd rather spend the the $25 entrance fee on a booster draft and singles. Plus, we should play more FNMs and events like that before we jump into something big like States. But Vern, 2nd, Peter, and I did go to FNM at Nova Games (Blong had to photograph his boss's wedding). There were 20 participants that night and the competition was better then it was last time.
I got 7th place overall with my Quick 'n Toast Deck. I decided to take out Cruel Ultimatum because it rarely wins me games but mainly because it throw my mana curve out of whack. I replaced the two Cruel Ultimatums with 2 Necrogenesis for graveyard & persist hate. So far so good, I think I like it better then the two Ultimatums. If that doesn't work out then I'm going to try Ajani Vengeant because he can keep threats tapped or lightning Helix Stuff or Armageddon my opponent.
I went 2-1-1 for the night. Quick 'n Toast is so slow! I always play my full 45 or 50 minutes allowed per round. I am proud to say that out of the three DCI events that I've gone to my record is 10-2-2.
The match that I lost to is going to be kept as a secret. I got annihilated 0-2 in like 20 minutes! It was by a brand new deck that I've never faced or seen. It totally blew me out of the water and I had no answers for it! It was an amazing deck that just completely controlled me the entire match! Okay, I guess I won't keep it as a secret! I got decked twice! Yes! TWICE! It was pretty amazing! This guy eventually got 2nd place because he got mana screwed twice in the final round. This guy's deck was pretty cool! He was pretty much controlling everyone he played and he kept on decking them continuously.
Like I said, I went 2-1-1 for the night, got 7th place out of 20, and I got a special FNM Isochron Scepter. Second played tough all night! HE WENT 3-1-0 AND GOT 3RD PLACE! THIRD PLACE! NICE! He won $6 in store credit and used it on Chandra Nalaars.
But the best part of the night was the drive home and the rest of the night where we talked about our matches and our opponents. It's so true that when you look back at your matches, you realized that you could of won all of those match "if only this" and "if only that." That's where you learn from your mistakes and become a better player. With just a little more practice, experience, play testing, & knowledge sharing, there's no reason why at least two of us can't place in the top 4 whenever we go to FNM!

I still think I got lucky. It kind of sucks that if we go 1 - 0 we'll have to play each other. I think we can easily take first through fourth; however, we'll be beating each other up. That's fair competition though.
I've been adjusting my deck all week. The Chandra Nalaars make it more difficult to play because my mana curve gets weird. I normally can survive with three mana, but if I'm holding Chandra Nalaar, Siege-Gang Commander, and Caldera Hellion then I'm stuck.
I'd like to go to FNM maybe once a month. I think the wives are totally tired of Magic. Hahaha! We need to find them a universal hobby they can all do together.
