Angel Tree Christmas

Originally I wanted to go play TNM @ the Source but I've got some important things to take care of. Looks like tonight is going to be another night of Christmas shopping. Pajjar and I have just a couple of gifts left to get and everything is going pretty smoothly so far. I can't believe Christmas is in 9 days, it's pretty crazy to me.

Pajjar and I signed up for this Angel Tree thing at our church. It's a program where you buy gifts on behalf of someone in prison. It's cool that our church has so many prison outreach ministries. If there's anyone who can fully understands the message of redemption it's someone in prison.

Pajjar called the family that we're sponsering last night and it really hit me. It's true that those who are affected the most by a spouse/parent going to prison, isn't the offender, it's the family that's left behind. The single mom with the child now has twice the work and half the income to survive. Prison isn't an easy place but it's easier then trying to survive in the real world with a child who wonders where his/her dad is.

I doubt that when we go drop off the gifts it's going to be an easy or self-fulfilling event. I wouldn't be surprised if they took the gifts and slammed the door in our face. The truth is that it's already been a spiritually fulfilling event.

Make us instruments of peace.
