I'm so happy that it's Friday. Not because it means FNM, but that I get some more rest and get to hangout with my wife. SHE'S MY BEST FRIEND! Last night I could of play tested with Blong, who I believe is going to FNM tonight, but I really wanted to finish up our Christmas shopping instead. We ran from store to store last night for about 4 hours and then we eventually settled into our final destination of the night before we went home. OLIVE GARDEN! I do love Olive Garden's Never-ending Pasta Bowls but the thing is that I feel dirty getting a final plate, eating half of it, and taking the other half home. I feel like I'm abusing their system, which I am. But since they had a different specialty item I got that instead. It felt good loading up on soup, appetizers, and breadsticks knowing that whatever I don't finish I could take home with no guilt. I think Pajjar felt the same way because she could only eat a couple of bites of her lasagna.
*MAGIC TALK BEGINS, SKIP IF YOU WANT*
I’m finally getting a chance to watch the videos of the M:TG 2008 World Championships. I’m currently watching the individual quarter finals and it’s DANG exciting, even though I know who won. It's so much fun watching a good Fae player pilot a Faerie deck. PVDdR (Paolo Vitor Damo de Rosa) just made this incredible play where he had no Faeries in play and a bunch of lands including 2 Mutavaults. Jamie Parke plays a spell and PVDdR activates both Mutavaults, giving him 2 Faeries, and then plays a Spellstutter Sprite! Park counters the Sprite, then PVDdR plays another Spellstutter Sprite to counter the counterspell! Out of nowhere PVDdR now has TWO Mutavaults and TWO Spellstutter Sprites! That is the power of Fae! They control the game and then ON YOUR TURN they play two creatures!
There’s also a Kithkin vs. Faerie matchup. Kithkin has so much card advantage! Spectral Procession gives you 3 creatures for one spell, Cloudgoat Ranger gives you 4 creatures for one spell, and Ranger of Eos gives you 3 creatures total for one spell! Plus, Windbrisk Heights gives you even more card advantage in the sense that it’s an extra card in your hand but they can’t Thoughseize it. But Faeries still have one of the best “card advantage” cards in the game: Bitterblossom. For one spell you get an infinte amount of Faeries. Throw in a Scion or two and it’s over.
At first, I thought that it was weird that Parke who’s playing 5CC (5-Color Control) had Bitterblossoms in his sideboard. But I guess in the end it paid off. He won the last and deciding game of the match because he had his Bitterblossom in play and his opponent didn’t. Plus, he masterfully played a bunch of powerful spells on his opponent’s turn, PVDdR (Paolo Vitor Damo de Rosa), forcing PVDdR to either let those powerful spells resolve or to tap out and counter them. In the end, PVDdR had to try to counter those spells. Next thing you know, PVDdR is tapped out and it’s STILL the end of HIS turn. PVDdR passes the REMAINDER of his turn and Parke plays CRUEL ULTIMATUM!!! Yes! Well done Jamie Parke!
I’ll probably watch the rest of videos throughout this weekend. They’re so good!
*MAGIC TALK ENDS somewhat, RESUME READING*
Tonight I won’t be able to make it to FNM because Pajjar and I are gonna visit Cheng and Anna instead. Anna’s been taking it pretty tough because of the pregnancy. It hurts to see our friends struggle like this. I also will be bringing my Magic cards in case Cheng wants to play, kekeke! Anybody want to join us?
Have a good Friday everyone!
