Circus Juventas

This morning one of my bosses came in with his four-year old son. Not a big deal, normal office routine stuff, I greeted him, asked him questions, and then he asked me if I knew how to juggle. Before I could I answer him he said “I know how to juggle! I’m in the circus!” he then pulled out four foam balls from his jacket pocket and started juggling! I was amazed! A four-year old juggling four balls! I can’t even juggle 2! He then started walking around the office juggling and performing stunts like juggling while laying down, juggling while climbing chairs and desks, dropping a ball on the ground and then picking it up while still juggling the other three balls. I was impressed! Really impressed!

My boss told me that his son was part of a circus in St. Paul called Circus Juventas. It’s an organization that teaches children from the ages of 3 to 21 to develop certain physical strengths and abilities while empowering them to be creative and to achieve goals. It’s like Circus du Soleil but for children.

I wouldn’t mind going to one of their shows. I’ve always been fascinated by Circus du Soleil. I just think it’s amazing how creative they are. There probably a lot of leadership and creative principles that I’m pretty sure the church could learn from. What if the church tried to be as creative as Circus du Soleil? Not in the sense that we have a trapeze artist performing during worship, but in the sense that we try to push our selves creatively as opposed to just doing the norm every Sunday?
