Greg Boyd put up a really interesting post about his disagreements with The American Patriot’s Bible. Of course, he’s totally against it. I personally agree with him that a lot of the commentary in this Bible is skewed and misleading. But I guess at the same time, I am a person who enjoys reading the Message over the NASB sometimes. But that’s because I know that the Message is a paraphrase of the Bible, not a translation.
I grew up reading the NIV because that’s what was given to me. After conversations with my dad, my father-in-law, Sarah, Jake, and other people who have more Bible knowledge than I do, I decided to try out the NASB and have never looked back. This translation fits my personality, in the sense that I don’t mind reading something archaic because I don’t mind doing research on the time period that the text is referencing.
Here’s the Bible I carry around with me today. It’s huge! It’s sometimes a pain to carry around but I love it. It’s got NASB because that what I personally prefer. It’s got NIV because it’s the most popular translation out there. It’s got Amplified as well, which I heard is an even more literal translation of the Bible than the NASB is, but I like it because it’s got a lot of background information. And it has KJV, which I don’t look at too much. Ideally, I wouldn’t mind dropping the NIV portion and replacing it with The Message. I also wouldn’t mind if it dropped the KJV and added more space for note taking. Plus, making this Bible a few pounds lighter wouldn’t hurt either. What Bible translation do you use and why?Have a great week everyone! Live long and prosper!
