Here's their manifesto... written on a napkin! Only nerds write on napkins and only nerds who care about design draw pictures with their notes, write in caps, and underline.
d.school believes in environments that facilitate the process of idealizing. See the movable walls that you can write/idealize on? See the Post-It Notes? See how the chairs have no backs?
The walls maybe plain and white but your ideas (written onto the walls) are the color. Being creative in how you present your ideas will allow your ideas to be more creative.
Discomfort leads to forced movement. If community work areas where ideas are brainstormed and tasks must be completed are awkward, it doesn't allow for an employee to sit down and get too comfortable. It forces them to move around, to get things done, to interact and engage with others.
I know you're a creative person, but if I were to walk through your mind what would it look like?
Would it look like a mess?
Or an empty room?
Or would it look like the hallways of d.school? I believe that the more detailed and organized you are, the more effective and creative your ideas will be.
