Okay... so here I go again...

Character… it’s who you are and what you do when you’re alone. If you put a front of patience and humility but when you go home, you boss around and beat your children, then there is something wrong with your character. If you put on the mask of a faithful and loving husband but when you go home and look at porn all day, there is something wrong with your character.

You see when a CEO steals money, it’s not because all of the sudden he’s tempted to steal money and has never fallen to temptation before in the past. No, chances are he’s done it in the past. You just don’t just make a big mistake out of nowhere. You’ve conditioned your character by falling into temptation.

A husband that one day cheats on his wife, just doesn’t fall into bed with another woman out of nowhere. Long before that, he’s made the decision in his heart that he’s going to look at this other woman, that he’s going to click on that link, that’s he’s going to fantasize about her. Does that help clarify character for you? Your character is who you are when you’re alone.

You see… I love people of character. I love reading about it. I love trying to develop it in my life.

You know, the reason why I voted for Barack Obama into the U.S. Senate was honestly because I believe he was a man of character. You see, when you’re the President of the Harvard Law Review, when you graduate. YOU LITERALLY CAN NAME YOUR PRICE. You can go to the top law firms and quote them your salary. But for him to say “I’m going back to Chicago to help those less fortunate,” says a lot about his character. Living in Chicago for 6 years, I met some people who were truly touched by his life.

My prayer is that we all become individuals of character.
