I wasn't bashing Rick Warren or Saddleback or the whole Purpose Driven thing in one of my recent posts. I actually really respect Pastor Warren and the ministries that he is involved in. I was listening to an interview and Rick Warren dropped some huge nuggets of wisdom. Here are my paraphrases:
Charisma does not equal leadership. Some of the most charismatic leaders in the past go by the name of Hitler & Mao Zedong. Just because you're charismatic doesn't mean that you're a leader. Charisma is entertaining but integrity equals leadership. Every year that you work hard and with integrity, the more successful you'll be. Every year that you work lazily, the harder every year will get.
Humility is like being on the same side as God. God doesn't like the prideful simply because they refuse to be taught. You can literally learn from anyone! You can learn from friends and teachers if you are humble. You can learn from enemies and critics if you are humble. You can be smarter than your enemies if you are humble, everyone can teach you something that is right. Even a clock that is broken is right twice a day. Be humble and try to learn something from everyone.
