Romans 12:2-
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Last week as we were on a flight to Philly, our plane took off the ground directly into the dark and downcast skies. It was scary not being able to see anything and having our vision clouded. Suddenly as our plane kept rising higher and higher, we were sitting above the clouds and darkness. As our plane flew above the clouds sunshine and blue skies surrounded us and shone so bright I had to squint my eyes. I thought of the verse above and related this transformation from the darkness to the light as what a person’s mental process must physically look like when you “renew your mind.”
Renewing your mind is more than just an epiphany that happens one day at some random time when a sudden realization “clicks” in your mind and you come to understand. I feel like to be “transformed” is a much more powerful statement than to have an epiphany… To be transformed means to change your lifestyle, to truly alter something in your life.
I am looking for that transformation in my life! I am seeking and thirsting to “renew my mind”, to become the person that I’ve always wanted to be and that God has meant for me to be. I am so hungry to pioneer into something new and different. I’m so tired of living this mundane lifestyle where I have the same routine day after day. We eat the same things week after week. We do the same activities month after month.
Ecclesiastes 2:17-18-
“So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun.”
Do you ever feel like you’re itching to do something different in your life? Do you ever feel like you are capable of so much more than what you’re doing right now? I think that’s why I’ve been feeling so dissatisfied with my life. I crave to live a life that honors God and that is meaningful! The things I’m doing in my life right now feel so aimless, completely without purpose.
I leave you with a passage from Nelson Mandela that my sister emailed me:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?"
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us. It's in everyone, and, as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
I need to make a change. I can’t keep up this useless lifestyle anymore. I’ve grown tired of the “usual” and "ordinary". I desire a transformation. I want to see God’s "good, pleasing and perfect will" for me clearly and unequivocally like that day when we flew above the dark clouds and into the light and beauty of God’s grace.
