Amazon's Kindle

I heard Pastor Andy Stanley talk about the Amazon Kindle and I too think that it is really cool! But it’s not because he’s talking about how much he likes his but because it truly is a really cool piece of technology.

The screen is easy on the eyes. It’s hard for me to read a lot from computer screens because they’re so bright, I like to print out documents and read them off the paper. But the Kindle screen is gray and the text is black, making it paper-like and easy on the eyes. You can also make the text larger or smaller.

It has a long battery life. Because the screen isn’t backlit, that conserves the battery life. You can go over a week without having to charge it. Don’t worry, it won’t die on you half way through your flight or road trip.

It’s wireless, but uses cell phone technology to connect to the internet not wi-fi. It doesn’t surf the web, but you can subscribe to blogs, major newspapers, magazines, access wikipedia or a dictionary if you run into a word you don’t understand. You can also browse books and purchase them wirelessly! Plus there’s no charge for the wireless!

You can bookmark pages, hi-light quotes and view all of them later, it can view word docs, it’s got a qwerty keyboard, you can type notes on it, it’s light and compact, it can view pictures in grayscale, you can listen to music and audio books with it through headphones or it’s built in speaker, plus if you lose it amazon.com keeps track of all of your purchases.

Granted it may never beat good old paper books and it’s over $350 but it is a pretty cool piece of technology.
