il fait du soleil!

hey guys! its finally saturday! johan and i both went off to class this morning (yes, we have sat morning classes) and now im at home. johan's off to the pre-release party. he just called and said that they're starting to booster draft in 30 mns. you guys should have seen how excited he was yesterday haha. he really wanted to go to blong's house to play magic, but he realized he had to finish sum homework. it was very, very sad to see how disappointed he was. hehe. so im glad that he's off all day playing magic. im going to spend a little "me" time and workout, then i have to work later tonite.

i have crim law on saturday mornings and it's so fun!!!! hahaha. my crim law professor is HILARIOUS. one of our cases today was about burglary and attempted rape and the story goes that this guy attempted to rape this girl (which actually doesn't end up being rape b/c she consented). so the guy gets into the girls bedroom by grabbing a ladder and climbing into her room. before he goes inside, he takes off all his clothes except for his socks b/c apparently he believed that wearing socks would allow him to escape faster. haha. so my teacher draws some tube socks up on the board from the 70s with the 2 red stripes and a little red where the toes are. it was sooo funnie. i guess you had to be there, but man, she's great. =) it makes me look forward to my saturdays.

volunteering was SOOOOOO much fun! i got to the school and one of the office workers took me down to the teacher's classroom, but the class was actually in the computer lab. the teacher introduced me to the students and then had me help 3 Hmong students with reading comprehension/social studies. it was fun, we learned about the vikings and christopher columbus. they were so cute and one of them was pretty shy.

im really excited to start volunteering again (in some kind of capacity that's not related to law) because when doing so it brings me back to where i need to be. (this doesn't mean i dont enjoy volunteering at legal orgs.) wat i mean by that is when i volunteer it forces me to bring the focus off of myself to other people. it sounds so simple, but when i become all wrapped up in my life and entangled in wat i want, and wat i need, i become very selfish, greedy, and materialistic. volunteering helps (but doesn't solve of course) my issues and so when im holding a baby in my arms with a trachea in her throat to help her breathe, or when im interviewing an indigent family of 8 who's living in the basement of their relatives with no beds to see if they qualify for a new home, its a humbling experience for someone who complains about not having enough. in short, volunteering teaches me so much more than wat i could ever really contribute. i dont volunteer because i have so much to offer....its because i learn so much from the people i interact with.

so i looked into learning french at the french alliance in st.paul, but it's going to cost too much for me, so it looks like i wont be able to polish up my french skills. as for learning mandarin, kingsley told me one of his friends is taking it from a Chinese lady, so maybe i'll try inquiring how much it will cost....

okay, long post. have a great weekend everyone! enjoy the warmer weather!
