remember how i wanted to do at least 1 of 3 things this year:
1. learn Mandarin
2. better my French
3. volunteer at a school.
well today is my first day at Cityview Magnet School in Minneapolis! I will be helping 5th graders with a math competition that's approaching. Also, the teacher knew "Thao" was a Hmong last name, and so she asked if maybe I would be willing to help Hmong students with reading comprehension as well.
im super excited to be working with kids again. ive volunteered at schools and nurseries and a children's hospital ever since high school, so im happy that ill be helping kids at this school once again. =) (i've volunteered for other orgs that don't deal with kids before too, like habitat for humanity.) im a firm believer in public/community service, so im really looking forward to this experience!
i give johan's cousin, kaoly and her husband kong, a lot of props because they teach their kids about giving back to the community. for instance for taylors birthday, instead of receiving presents, she had each attendant donate money to UNICEF! thats truly amazing and i hope that if/when i have children i will teach them these same kinds of values that are really important.
ill let you guys know how it goes. i cant wait!!!! =D

It's great that you are volunteering at a school. It's always special to have someone like you in a school because you are such an inspiring role model to many many kids. BY being there and helping the kids, you really show them that they could do great things in life just like you do. awesome.
