Oh Yeah! 1800 Here I Come!

I’ve only played one event since the SCG $5K back on June 27. That event alone, where I went 4-3-1, pushed my DCI score from 1693 to 1721! Awesome! That’s 28 points!

That one event that I’ve played in the past month was a Sealed tournament were I took 4th. My opponents have been getting mana screwed/flooded all night due to a combition of bad deck building and my dirty cutting skills. My deck honestly did not deserve to win 4th. My bombs were Planar Cleansing, Armored Ascension, and Serra Angel, but my deck did have a lot of battle tricks in it like two Harm’s Ways (which I think is an awesome card in limited, when played right it’s a 2-for-1 like Agony Warp), 2 Devine Verdicts, and Fog.

In the fourth and final round, us top 4 players decided to draw against each other and play for fun. I played against Phi Tran. I like Phi, he’s cool and we always tend to hang out at events. He’s a good player for only playing less than 6 months. He even hung out with us at the $5K. Phi’s deck was absolutely ridiculous! He had 3 Lightning Bolts, 2 Serra Angels, & 2 Pyroclasms! But alas, my dirty cutting skills mana screwed him in Game 1 and mana flooded him in Game 2. Somehow I still got 4th place because some person who was 2-0-1 won his final match and got 3rd place, knocking me down to 4th. Like I said earlier, us top 4 guys already decided to draw against each other.

So what’s my DCI score now? It went from 1721 to 1737! Nice! A 16 point jump is not too bad! Especially if you have a deck that should be 2-2! I lost 2 points when I drew against Phi. If I would of played against him I think I could of won at least another 3 points making me 1740, but it’s okay. I’m happy with 1737!

My first sanctioned event was on October 10th, 2008. Realistically I can probably play 5 more events before my “One Year Anniversary.” My goal is to reach 1750 by the end of the summer and maintain it. ILLINOIS HERE WE COME!
