America's Industrial Age is Gone

This book is on my "to read" list. Seth Godin is a genious!

I heard Seth Godin on the Catalyst Podcast say that "America's industrial age is over. That 50 year olds who have been laid-off will not be able to find a blue-collar/industrial job that pays them $50K. These 50 year olds are going to live for another 40 years and the next 40 years are going to be very hard for them."

He said is it so consicely and quickly, but not flippantly, that I almost didn't catch it, but then I start to think about it. It's so true that 7 years ago, our parents were able to work $55K jobs operating a fork lift or assembling things, but now they'll be lucky to earn $35K. Plus, after the housing bubble bursted, most 50 year old's main source of equity went down the drain.

Most people who have been laid off will never be able to restore their previous income level. They will forever be under-employed, because before, they were over-employed. America is changing.
