I'm pretty excited because I just ordered a DIY Tubescreamer 808 kit from General Guitar Gadgets (GGG ITS8) and a Jack-of-All-Mini Boutique Boost (GGG JOAM Boutique Boost) PCB board!
The GGG JOAM Boutique Boost is supposedly a Fulltone Fat-Boost (version 1). Fulltone no longer makes this version because I believe they got some crude comments from the pedal community about ripping off this pedal from the web. I actually need a fat boost/clean boost for my pedal board more than another Tubescreamer. I actually used to own one a few years back, but sold it because I wanted to try other pedals, but none of them really worked out for me so it’s back to the Fat-Boost. Yay!
Every pedal board needs a Tubescreamer! I currently have 2 on my board and own about 5! Or at the least every pedal board should have a version of, clone, or type of a Tubescreamer on their pedal board. There are a lot of Tubescreamers out there! Off the top of my head I can think of at least 40 different pedals that are based off the Tubescreamer's circuit.
Even though I don't need another Tubescreamer on my pedal board, I want the best Tubescreamer that I can get my hands on. That's the main reason why I bought the GGG ITS8 kit. It's the foundation of my tone and I just want the best foundation that I can afford.
I plan on building the GGG ITS8 as a stock 808 Tubescreamer with the diode lift mod & the AMZ Phat mod. I want to play around with this build for a while. Then after I pick up another DIY Tubescreamer kit (probably a BYOC Overdrve 2). I'll change the GGG ITS8 into a Keeley modded Tubescreamer or a Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive clone. You want to hear some great Tubescreamer tones? Then check out the Stroke's new single! The two guitarists are adimate users of both the Visual Sound Route 66 & Jekyl & Mr. Hyde. Both pedals are based off the Tubescreamer circuit.
Have a great weekend everyone!
