My Favorite Thursday of the Year: Mandatum Thursday

Does anyone want to go to the Desiring God Conference in Minneapolis on Oct. 1-3 (Desiring God is John Piper's ministry).

Theme: "Think: The Life of the Mind & the Love of God"

Here are some of the speakers:

Rick Warren – “Thinking Purposefully for the Glory of Christ: The Life of the Mind and Global Reality”

R. C. Sproul (via video) – “Thinking Deeply in the Ocean of Revelation: The Bible and the Life of the Mind”

Francis Chan – “Think Hard, Stay Humble: The Life of the Mind and the Peril of Pride”

John Piper – “Thinking for the Sake of Joy: The Life of the Mind and the Love of God”

Holy Week: Thursday

Today is probably my favorite Thursday of the year. I don't do anything differently from any other work day. In fact, our fiscal team is getting audited by the State today (we get audited twice a year), so I'll probably be here late at work. But it's my favorite Thursday of the year because it's Mandatum Thursday. Mandatum is latin for "command" or "mandate." Becauase some 2000 years ago, on the night before Jesus' death he said in John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." Pretty sweet huh!

On Thursday, Peter and John secure a room and start to prepare for the Passover meal.

Later in the evening, Jesus and his disciples partake in the Passover meal, Jesus also foretells about his coming betrayal, and institutes the Lord's supper. He then washes his Disciples' feet and they depart for the Mount of Olives... things are about to get crazy!
