WOW!!! I was in class during the game but I kept an eye on the gamecast on ESPN.com.
Ever since I've moved up to MN, I've become a huge Twins fan, I think that's because I'm a fan of solid baseball. They just play the game right, they focus on pitching and defense. How do you come back from a 7 game deficeit? With pitching and solid defense, that's how!
I've realized that the entire Twins organization is very unique. When a player comes from AAA to the big league, there's no difference in how the game is played. Through out your entire career with the Twins organization you're taught to work hard, discipline yourself, and to play solid defense. You could be batting .250 but as long as you're playing solid defense, running the bases smartly, and getting some clutch hits with base runners in scoring position, you'll be a Twin.
The older I get the more I realize how important character is. I define character as who you really are, especially when you're alone.
Another reason why I like the Twins so much is because they draft and trade for players of what I call "players of high character." These players don't whine about money or playing time, they're disciplined, work hard, and think smart.
I think Joe Mauer should win the MVP. The Twins didn't have Justin Morneau for the past month and with Joe Mauer, they've overcome a 7 game deficit. This is only his 6th year in the majors and has already won two hitting titles! That's crazy!
Did you know that if the Twins would of used their first draft pick on either Mark Texeira or Mark Prior, then the Cubs could of had Joe Mauer? Just think about that...
Did you also know that in his senior year in high school he was the #1 high school football player and the #1 high school baseball player? Did you know that Joe Mauer stuck out ONLY ONCE in high school and it was a foul tip too! That's crazy!
