Tuesday Review: New X-Men: Ultimate Collection, Vol. 3

I just finished reading New X-Men: Ultimate Collection, Vol. 3, which contains New X-Men #142-154. I’ve never really cared that much for the New X-Men stuff because it was such a huge departure, artistically and story wise, from the regular X-Men stuff that I grew up on. I have to be honest and tell you guys that I honestly did enjoy it! The reason why I started to read it was because I wanted to read the whole background into the whole House of M thing.

Assault on Weapon PlusNew X-Men #142-145 (late 2003)

So something weird has been going on with Cyclops (Scott Summers), he hasn’t been himself lately and it’s been revealed that he’s been having a psychic affair with Emma Frost, currently, a member of X-Men. Emma Frost has a history with wanting to be with Scott. Scott, torn between what he’s done, contemplates leaving the X-Men for good. Wolverine catches up with him at a bar, which Fantomex is at as well. Fantomex is actually Weapon XIII, remember that Wolverine is Weapon X. Fantomex convinces Cyclops and Wolverine to help him destroy the Weapon Plus progam, a program designed to destroy all mutants, which orbits the Earth.

Fantomex, or Weapon XIII, has an external nervous system called E.V.A. They have a symbiotic relationship where they feel each others pain but can separate themselves from each other. When E.V.A leaves Fantomex presence, Fanotmex feels less/no pain and is an excellent killing machine. He can also create illusions, called “misdirections” that can fool many psychics because he wears a certain type of mask that protects him from psychic probes. He is a skilled fighter, has multiple brains, which allows him to think and react faster, and has mutant killing bullets. E.V.A. can change herself into anything like a spaceship for Fantomex to fly in.

At the Weapon Plus space station, Wolverine discovers more information about his past; here is where I also find out that Captain America is actually Weapon I. Fantomex and Cyclops set up explosives and blow the place to pieces. Wolverine, the stubborn man that he is, doesn’t care about destroying the floating space station, as much as he wants to know about his past. Eventually, the place explodes with him in it. But is Wolverine dead or alive?

Come back next week as I share more about New X-Men: Ultimate Collection, Vol. 3.

Pajjar was telling me that some of her coworkers think that I’m nerdy because I play Magic, like comic books, listen to odd music, mod guitar pedals, etc.

But Pajjar and another co-worker of hers said that they heard that Nerds are way happier with their lives because they’re doing things that they enjoy doing. As opposed to the guy who grinds out a 9-to-5 schedule and then does nothing when he’s at home. I whole heartly agree! I, being a nerd, am happy being a nerd!
